There is no better way to explore the treasures of ancient Egypt than by taking a Nile cruise – a truly memorable holiday.

The Nile is widely considered to be the longest river in the world, and its northernmost section starts in the deserts of Sudan and flows north through Egypt to end its journey in the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile is at Egypt’s very heart - the fertile river valley giving sustenance to her people, most of whom live on the shores of the Nile. It was as important in ancient times as it is today and its banks are home to many of ancient Egypt’s most fascinating treasures.
Nile cruising has been favoured by travellers in Egypt since the beginnings of tourism and was a staple of the Victorians’ Grand Tour, in fact the first steamships were introduced to the Nile in 1869. Things have come a long way since then and the Nile cruise boats which we have chosen offer the highest standards of modern comfort and service, with fastidious attention to hygiene. During your Nile cruise, life on board is a very civilised mix of sightseeing and relaxation - exploring ancient temples and watching life on the riverbank as you pass by; ancient farming traditions which have changed little over hundreds, or even thousands of years.
Whichever boat you choose, all of our Nile cruises visit the same sites, although the order and timings may vary slightly from the itineraries shown here. Most days on board will start early in order to avoid the heat of the midday sun whilst sightseeing. You will usually have a chance to relax later in the day. Choose to read in the shade on deck or take a refreshing dip in the pool. Modern-day sun-worshippers will relish the opportunity to soak up some rays whilst admiring the views of the Nile.
Cruising is usually quite a sociable way to travel and is ideal for those travelling on their own. Given the early mornings, however, many people choose to retire early although there is usually entertainment on board after dinner on at least two nights of your Nile cruise - typically this is a Galabiya party, where you have the opportunity to dress up in traditional attire, or a Nubian show, a chance to experience the local culture. Please note that the captain may need to change the itinerary for your Nile cruise depending on prevailing weather conditions, water level, river traffic or other circumstances. The itinerary will also change during the period that the Esna Lock is closed for maintenance.
Please browse our Nile cruise itineraries for more details about the temples, tombs and other ancient sites which you will visit. We have a full range of Nile Cruises using the boats which we feature - M.S Nile Premium, M.S Sonesta Nile Goddess, the Oberoi Philae and M.S. Sherry Boat.
