Datça, Turkey - a sophisticated resort, popular with yachting types and local tourists, with no shortage of Turkish charm and jaw-dropping scenery.

The comparative inaccessibility of the charming Datça peninsula has two key advantages: the resort is delightfully uncrowded and the drive along the 100km or so-long finger of rugged landmass to reach it is simply breathtaking. Punctuated by the occasional tiny, white washed village and flanked by sparkling turquoise-hued coves, the Datça peninsula aptly marks the meeting of the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas.

Holidays in Datça revolve around the bustling natural harbour where there is a good choice of restaurants serving the very best of local produce and mouth-watering seafood. The Datça peninsula is one of the most popular spots on the celebrated Blue Cruise route, and benefits from a chic, yacht culture. Nightlife is low-key although in high summer, there is a little more life to the place as locals flock to their summer homes to holiday in Datça. The peninsula is famed throughout Turkey for its excellent air quality and people often come to Datça hotels to recuperate.

Two of the most popular beaches in the area are Taslik, a pebbly beach, and Kumluk which is sandy. Nearby Azanli is famed for its magnificent coastal views and Gulluk cove, 10km away, is a favourite for local windsurfers. Crystal clear waters mean all are perfect for swimming and snorkelling and no less than four beaches on the Datça peninsula hold the coveted Blue Flag award for cleanliness.

We have chosen a really special Datça Hotel, the Asina Hotel which is sure to delight our guests, with its excellent standards and spectacular setting. Although you’d be forgiven for wanting to spend your holiday in Datça doing little more than relax and soak up the sun and stunning surroundings, a wander through the streets of the old town is a must. Winding streets and character-filled Greek stone houses festooned in fragrant honeysuckle and bougainvillea offer a rare glimpse of a bygone time.

The nearby ruins of ancient Knidos, occupying a site at the very tip of the Datça peninsula, are another worthwhile diversion. This Carian City was an important centre for art and culture back in the 4th century B.C and famed for the fine marble sculpture of Aphrodite which once stood here.

During the summer months, a ferry service operates between Datça and the popular resort of Bodrum. The journey takes around two and a half hours.
